#19 Life Updates :)

B&W photo taken by yours truly :)

Did you realize it's been nearly 2 years since the last time I updated this blog? I would be surprised if there are still any of you here reading this old man's blog. From what I see, my most viewed post is still the one about that scholarship. Well what can I say?

In case you guys don't know, I graduated kosen (高専) this March. Hooray! Since coming to Japan, going to university is pretty much the only goal I've had in mind. Personally, kosen is just like a detour I took to achieve that goal. That being said, I still enjoyed that detour. I managed to meet bunch of wonderful people throughout the way, some of them might have brought changes in my life.

I am currently studying at Tokyo Institute of Technology (東工大) as a junior. As the name suggests, the campus is located in Tokyo, so I can't stay in that dirt cheap dorm forever.. I gotta move to Tokyo. I found that the whole process of looking for apartment and moving in is highly inefficient. In this digital era where email is common, why do Japanese still use fax for everything? Since I don't have that ancient relic, I had no choice but to go to Tokyo multiple times a week just to do all the tedious signing. Maybe I will go deeper into the process in a separate post.

I also started working at McDonalds :) Hahahaha... Initially, I applied for a job in Uniqlo. As an employee, you are entitled to 30% discount (if I'm not mistaken) when purchasing their product. I am not an avid clothes hoarder, but every time I look at my wardrobe, I can't help but feel depressed. I thought it's gonna be a good opportunity to buy clothes. But they rejected me for unknown reason :(. Tbh, in the list of where I wanna work, McDonalds is pretty down below and yet it is the closest restaurant to my apartment. Long story short, they hired me on the spot due to the lack of human resource they ran into. So far, working there has been an okay experience. Again, I will probably discuss this in a different post.

In Tokyo Tech, they employ quarter system. So instead of dividing 1 year into 2 semesters, we have 4 quarters. It honestly sucks. A single subject can be handled by 2 or more professors. Let's say I have Mechanics subject. During the first half, Professor A is responsible for it. Although he has some quirks, Mr. A is overall an enjoyable teacher. After 3 weeks or so, we're already accustomed to how he teaches. But then, the second half comes and Mr. B replaces Mr. A. He doesn't know how to teach and has a different teaching style which we have to get used to again. I hope you get I want to say, it's a total mess.

The good part, however, is having 2 months worth of summer break. It is so long I don't know what to do with it. I guess fixing my bad habit comes first (?) If I look around, my contemporaries apparently read more literatures than I do and I feel intimidated by it. I want to incorporate reading books into my habit, seriously.
